Heard this in the car yesterday and was reminded how much this song rocks. Good music, never really goes bad. Bad hair however lives with you forever on the internets.
I have a thing against band names that need to be shortened into acronyms or sound like titles of love poems I once wrote back in the 8th grade. Too many memories of fake kissing pillows quite honestly. The Pains of Being Pure at Heart don't sound much older than that but despite the young vocals their songs are quite lovely. Thanks to Patty and Annie for getting me out to the Rickshaw last night. Forgot how much I love going to shows...
Sometimes it takes a few plays before I really connect with bands and their music. I have a tendency to fall in love with albums long after others have started playing them at housewarming parties and they're on request in jukeboxes around the city. When it finally happens I'll listen to a particular album on repeat until I can't bear to hear another single note from it.
There's been many albums where I've done this going back as far as Disintegration, a time where I was going through the years of "How the hell did I end up with this family?", to more recent memories of drinking wine and dancing to Hot Fuss with my girlfriends. Each of these albums takes me back to a place and time, and reminds me of how far I've come and how much further the road is ahead. This month I'm stuck on Crystal Castles:
Thievery Corporation put on an amazing show last night. But I expected nothing less since the Greek Theater rarely disappoints especially when it's beautiful out. It was still well into the 80s for the earlier part of the evening. Beau, Chris and Alex came over to my pad before the show where I fed them shots and made them listen to songs on repeat. They were good sports about it. ;) And Patty made it just in time despite the horrendous bridge traffic. Yay, to a fun night with friends and good music.
Went to see Justice last night with Beau and Tatsuhiko. Tiff went as well with her own posse but it was impossible to find anyone in that crowd. Justice is a French electronica music duo known for incorporating rock influences into their music. This was the first time that I got to see them live and they put on an amazing show. The concert was held at the Concourse Pavillion which I personally dislike since it's so big that sound quality often suffers. But when it's techno and the entire warehouse is filled, it's good to have sound vibrating throughout the building. Beforehand we had dinner at Sushi Groove South, drank sake-tinis, ate shrimp heads and shared uni maki rolls. Yummy food and good times.
Nick's birthday is next month and I've been trying to find something fun for us to do. He wants dinner at his favorite sushi spot in Berkeley and then after that I'm pretty much out of ideas.
But thank goodness for concert emails because I just bought tickets to Video Games Live for the week of his birthday. A full symphony and choir perform musical arrangements from popular videos games alongside video footage and lighting.
Wonder if I should go as a favorite video game character?
